This section will now include Thogchag (both old and more recent) and older Tibetan amulets and gaus. For more jewellery please visit our 'Sacred Jewellery' section by scrolling down to the right of this page.
Thogchag are worn by Tibetans and Himalayan peoples for their protective and sometimes healing properties. A Thogchag may appear in the form of a deity, Buddhist symbol, mantra or ritual Buddhist tools such as a vajra or phurba. Others may simply be ancient arrow points, buckles, body armor or even old horse trappings.Thogchag can be made from a combination of meteorite, bronze and other metals. Some pre-buddhist pieces are believed to be nearly 3000 years old and may have originated from Persia. In the Himalayan regions, Thogchag are known as 'stones of the sky fire'. This is because some rare pieces are thought to be made from meteorite (Tibetan: Namchak) or created from lightning strikes. It also suggests that their power is not of this world. In Tibetan Medicine, Thogchag are believed to have healing properties and are sometimes prescribed to heal certain ailments.
Ancient and older Thogchag pieces are becoming increasingly difficult to find and very rare amulets can command thousands of dollars. We offer a selection of pendants that are both old and more recent. We do not believe them to be ancient or made from genuine meteorite. We are also unable to authenticate their exact age and place of maufacture, however, all pieces are sourced from Tibetan traders in the Himalayan regions of India and Nepal.
The gaus that we have on offer are sourced in Tibet, the Himalayan Kingdom of Nepal and some pieces come via Mongolia. These are genuine older pieces. Some may include old clay Tsa Tsa's or small Rupas. Again we are unable to authenticate their exact age.
